Church Dress and Girl's Night IN!

Church Dress loves to do things a bit differently and we had a blast hosting a shopping party for a great cause. We partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society's " Girl's Night In" initative that raises money for Cancer Research.

"Girls Night In is an easy and fun fundraising program that turns a get together with the girls into a powerful fundraiser to support women’s cancer research and raise awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society. Create a theme and have an all-out bash, or make it low-key, whichever you prefer! Get your friends to donate what they would spend on a night out, and help raise money for an important cause."

So we packed up all our gear on July 18, 2010 and headed over to 70 Alford Cres to sell dresses and much more from our new " Parade of Colours" collection.

Through this Hot Summer Sale we were able to show how buying one dress can make a contribution to the "Girl's night In" Program.

Now its time to write a cheque with our donation to a worthy cause$$$.

The Halston's that I purchased during the controversial Outnet Sale arrived on Monday at around 4 pm. They came quick eh? Very impressive Outnet. They couldn't have come faster as I am so ready to wear them. If only Toronto would warm up I would easily pair them with a long orange maxi dress and wear them to Church with a yellow croc clutch. I am even thinking about wearing them to Church Dress' Spring/ Summer Shoe " A Parade of Colours" on May 22, 2010 at the Bata Shoe Museum.

Church Dress @TheOutnet Sale

This sale was being talked about for weeks and all that was being said was completely true. TheOutne t the sister site to high end online retailer Net-A-Porter had its 1 year anniversary sale online. I heard about TheOutnet fromy My fav blog Coco and Lowe a while and have been stuck on it ever since!

After much speculation, it was evident that TheOutnet did post items on the site for $1 or 1 Pound depending on which part of the world you were from. Each buyer was able to purchase one item for the great price of $1. This included, Jimmy Choo Shoes, Mulberry Totes even Alexander McQueen dresses. It was basically first come first serve or first wake as the start time of the sale was based on a secret email that was sent to your inbox. The folks in the UK were the first to get to the sale but there was PLENTY for the North Amercian Shoppers. I waited up all night and it was worth it. The process was smooth and fun!

Here are some of the deals that I found but were sold out by the time I could select them.
I did get a great pair of Halston ( Sarah Jessica Parker's brand ) shoes for $1 ( orginal price $750). They are the perfect punchy pink for the summer and I am smiley!

Church Dress was privileged to be invited to Pre- Toronto Fashion Week Event Entitled "The Spring Trend Report" Hosted by Shannae Ingleton and Yvonne Kai. It was an evening filled with Toronto's finest in Fashion. The Fashion show was a collaboration with The Red Carpet Room and showcased Canadian Talent in clothing and accessory design.

We also drank Fuze to our heart's content.
My fav was the Pomegranate and Acai berry. YUM!

Church Dress@ WWW: A Literary Journey

PUSH by Sapphire was the book selected for the second annual WWW: A Literary Journey event. With a new movie " Precious", the book has become one of the most discussed for the end of this 2009 year. Though is may look like an easy read with about 350 pages, it is not. Its graphic content about the life of an obese and abused sixteen year old named "Precious" turns your stomach and make it difficult to read.

Over one hundred women filled the dining room of The Boiler's House in the Distillery district of downtown Toronto. The evening was filled with discussion about the details for the book and the impact it had on its readers. While eating a meal the women of the WWW- What Women Want- community interacted with each other, agreed to disagree and shed tears.

The event was hosted by WWW's Creator Shannae Ingleton and her welcoming team. Shannae is the owner and founder of What Women Want that along with an blog, hosts exceptional events for women.Shannae's success has caused her to expand and develop what I like to call the "WWW Community".When describing her own life journey and the development of WWW Shannae stated these words," I created an opportunity for myself". I immediately tweeted that quote. It really reminded me that you can do anything and accomplish everything when you use your two hands and begin to build.

I was honoured to be amoungst some of Toronto's most accomplished and intelligent women. The dialogue was intense but ended with words from Dr. Roz who is the founder of Dr. Roz's Healing Place which is a shelter that provides aid for women like Precious.

Church Dress TIPS: What to Wear to Sing.

My Church was having a concert to complete the evangelistic series they had over the month of October. I was asked to sing and sang a song that was dear to my heart. The biggest issue I always have with singing is choosing something to wear.

Its difficult deciding on something to wear to minister as you will be in front of many people, you want to look confedient and do not want to offend anyone.When selecting something to wear to sing a solo or even in the choir here are a few tips

Wear something loose. A suit Jacket is always a great option because it won't show the movement of your stomach while you are taking in air to sing
Wear comfortable shoes. In this performance my shoes were a mess! I couldn't properly plant my feet on the ground because of the carpet and the weird design of my shoes
Do not wear a girdle. That sounds like common sense but sometimes you forget. When singing forget about your shape and go girdleless!
Make sure you outfit is not too too warm. When you sing you naturally sweat, so wear clothing with breathable fabrics that won't show your sweat stains *pause*
Be modest! Where a skirt that is not above the knee as it looks horrible when you are elevated and everyone can see your unmentionables. A skirt or dress at the knee will not look shorter when you stand on a stage as the eye level of the congregation is at your knees. Low v necks are out of the question along with shoulder bearing tops or blouses. it goo distracting for both men and women when they are looking at you. The focus is on the message in the music not your sculpted arms.

My name is mercy. I was there when there was no one else around. I was there when you were bed ridden. I was there when you got stopped for that speeding ticket. I was there when all hope was gone. My name is mercy.

I never take a day off for I must be ready when Jesus sends me to help your soul. He loves using me for I show how great, loving and kind He really is. It’s great representing Jesus because He knows exactly when and where to send me. He predicts when you will need me and has me on call.

Imagine what your life without me? Imagine your life without God’s grace and mercy? You would be plagued with endless heartache, more debt, numerous illness, violence and injury.

My name is Mercy and as the French would say “ Merci”. Unfortunately, God’s children forget to say “Thank you”, when I come to their rescue. Just as they call upon God’s name, their lips should be dripping with praise. With the same voice that asks for mercy in the lowest moment of their lives, that voice should be lifted to say “ Thank you”.

Luke 6:35-36 says that we must love our enemies and give them all that we have without asking much in return. Be merciful as our God is merciful. Show mercy as God has shown mercy unto you. Use mercy in your daily life with your children and your coworkers. Show mercy to your friends and show much mercy to your spouse. Use me in times of anger, despair and trouble.

Be merciful as your God is merciful unto you. Remember my name for you will need me. My name is mercy.

This colour is now one of the trends of this season. It has been seen on the runaway and on my arm. It was a good purchase and great prediction for the Winter season.

Church Dress @ The VAWK Show

I didn't end up ushering but I did end up on the guestlist thanks to my main dude. I am thankful to God for that because the line for general admission was long long long.So I got the line bypass thanks to the both of them. Along with a long line I ran into a fellow fashionista and one of Toronto's Top Fashion Bloggers Coco of Coco and Lowe.

The AGO was packed with fashion experts and a special S/S 2010 collection by Sunny Fong .

Overall the collection was small but intricate. It was full of colour and perforated fabrics which I love. There were cream pants suits with gold buttoned jackets and gala dresses with fuchsia borders.The Best part was the plus size and middle aged models. It was great to see a variety of women on the catwalk.

VAWK as the kick off show for Toronto LG Fashion Week really set the bar high. I was proud of the VAWK collection and would definitely buy a few pieces in a few years * wink*.

My conversation with Sunny Fong did not happen.

Toronto LG Fashion week Officially starts NOW!I can smell the thread all the way from here lol. The first event of the week is the VAWK s/s 2010 show and I am blessed enough to be helping out. Sunny Fong is an amazing Canadian designer that I have always dreamt of meeting.Excitement is in the air but the biggest issue is what to wear. UGH!

I have to wear all black. Double UGH! I love wearing all black but when I am told to wear all black a draw a mental blank! Being comfortable is must because I have to help out with the show but heels are still mandatory. Here is what I have in mind.

Toronto Fashion Week is starting in a few days and we are excited. Church Dress would love to be hosting our own event but instead we will be attending the many great events, exhibits and shows around the city of Toronto.

Church Dress will be heading to the ROM to see the Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913 - 2008.Vanity Fair is one of the world's leading fashion magazines and how fitting it is that they will be displaying a historic exhibit at the ROM. te exhibit will be filled with pictures of fashion greats and fashion icons. Its a Must see for the fashionista that appreciates the history of fashion!

Sometimes in the midst of your despair you think that all has gone wrong. You feel as if the whole world is against you and the hurt is too much to bear. What we must remember that with sorrow comes joy and the Lord WILL give you a double portion at the end of it all.

Today Church Dress received a great email from an even greater website with a perfect message for everyone...

God says in His Word that you will receive double for your troubles. If the devil has given you one trouble, then for that one trouble, you can expect to receive a double-portion blessing! And if that trouble has caused you to experience shame, God’s promise to you is this: “Instead of your shame you shall have double honour”! God wants to give you a double-portion blessing for every trouble you go through!

The moment you respond to God in faith, He gets involved in your restoration. And He does not restore to you the same amount you have lost. You always get more than before, if not in quantity, then in quality. You will be at a higher place than before. You will be stronger, healthier, wealthier, wiser or more at peace.

This was the case with Job. satan was behind Job’s troubles but when Job responded in faith, God took it upon Himself to restore ALL that Job had lost. The Bible tells us that Job received double in terms of quantity — from 7,000 sheep to 14,000 sheep, 3,000 camels to 6,000 camels,etc. And for the children he had lost, God restored in terms of quality — his daughters were the fairest in all the land. (Job 1:2–3, 13–19; 42:12–15)

Church Dress TIPS... Fragrances

Church is a very cozy atmosphere. You are gathered with your church family and friends. Everyone wants to give you a friendly hug and holy kiss. Its a great to feel loved but you have to make sure that other people can sense the love you have for yourself. Using a light perfume or cologne is one way to do this. Let be real, one of the worse things is to hug someone and get that musty smell from their church suit that is due for a visit to the cleaners lol.

Wearing a light fragrance makes me feel fresh and ready to worship. I know everyone does not like wearing strong perfumes so let me suggest a few of my favorites. They just might become your favorite too.

Baby Powder- Yes, I am talking about Johnsons&Johnsons. Its great for the person ( he or she) who does not like colognes or perfumes but wants to smell like they just walked out of the shower. Dab it behind the ears or on the neck for a longlasting effect.

Guess- I loved my Guess Perfume. It was a gift from my Daddy and I started using it only because he impressed me with his brand recognition lol. Now I can't get enough of it. Its delightful.

Burberry Weekend- Shout out to my cousin Kimmone who got this fragrance for me. It smells like a lovely honey lime with a hint of lemon.

Ralph Lauren Romance- This scent is very mature and makes you feel like a valuable vintage dress. Its not for everyone but makes a difference in your attitude.

Clinque Happy- My ultimate favorite and the bottle is mad cute.

For men

Sexual Michel Germain- I know the name is provocative and may ignite a fire, but the smell is great, Just ask my bro.
Sean John Unforgivable- this scent is very familiar to me. My Bf wears it all the time lol. It has a strong undertone but is classic.

Church Dress TIP: How to "Repeat" Effectively

To all my recessionistas ( that includes me) this is how you do it. Wear the same pieces over and over again and do so effectively. Here is how....

- Change your Hairstyle
- Match the items with a different top or bottom
- Play up your make up
- Wear the item to various events
- Add old or new accessories

I heart Curry/ Saffron/Mustard coloured clothing! They make me feel golden when I wear them. My blazer was worn at three separate events and added to my looks.

In this pic I wore it with jeans and an elaborate blouse to a Birthday Dinner

At church the same blazer was paired with with a vintage skirt and the accessories were kept to a minimum.

This day I was visiting another church to minister through song. The accessories made my blazer come alive.

I did it and so can you. Don't front these are some hard and serious times. " Repeat " Effectively

Church Dress is filled with creative individuals that make this team unique. One of those people are Punkey aka Cherith. She is filled with ideas that have developed Church Dress into what it is today. She is a Fashion graduate and is currently working on her " Fashion Masters" as I like to call it in Ottawa.

Her Couture line under the label Cherith. B is impecable. The colours and overall designs are stunning and classy. She was the team leader of the 1st annual Church Dress Fall Fashion Expo. If you go to the website www.churchdress.ca you can see some of her Handy work. Seasonal trends and overall themes are all under Punkey's direction. She organizes every photoshoot, from the clothing to the make up and the selection of models. She does it all!

We miss Punkey dearly and can't wait for her to return home and make us handmade feathered Boas and bowties for the guys on our team.

Punkey you are appreciated and we thank you for all the hardwork you have done. Even though you are hours away, Church Dress is filled with your vision and innovation. Oh by the way... when are you coming back!?!?!

Church Dress@The Young Men and Women's Conference

Spring is coming around slowly but surely. Today was a glorious day both spiritually and with the wonderful weather here in Toronto. Church Dress worshiped with other young people at the Young Men and Women's Conference. The whole day was organized by the Ontario Conference for Seventh Day Adventists. I must say that they did an amazing job from the speaker Dr. Gamble to the praise team ( which Church Dress was A part of).

The Fashionistas showed up today to welcome the arrival to Spring. Thank God for the changes in seasons because I love seeing the change in everyone's dress. With the sun brings many many Church Dresses. Creative Arts Ministry

The Rebel-ution

The youth of Apple Creek were filled with excitement as the Rebel-ution occurred right before their eyes. Church Dress was a part of this Youth Service and made sure that the Rebel-ution was felt by presenting a Call to worship that was centered around the theme. We challenged the youth to do hard thing for Christ and stand out amongst theire.

The Church Dress ladies had our own Rebel-ution going on dressed in basic black with some colour here and there.

Church Dress Dilemma... Necklines!

When you think of innappropriate necklines you may think of these...

Clearly they are definitely innappropriate for the event which is Church.But what about the ones that make you say... hmmmmmm maybe.. maybe not? Some necklines are clearly not suited for Church. The hardest part is deciding if it will make the brothers focus on your blessing instead of receiving theirs.

Let's look at a few that may make you say... hmmmmm.
